F1 FANTASY: What were the best and worst teams for the Italian Grand Prix
It took them nine years, but Ferrari triumphed at the Italian Grand Prix once more thanks to a stirring performance from Charles Leclerc. But how did all the drivers’ performances across the Monza weekend play out on F1 Fantasy? Check out the best and worst F1 Fantasy teams from Italy.
A full 11 F1 Fantasy players picked the ‘Best Team’ for Italy that you can see below – especially impressive given that, with 15,880,194 valid combinations of drivers and constructor, there was but a 0.0000062% chance of them doing that.
So, here’s who you should have opted for in your F1 Fantasy team around the Temple of Speed, as well as who you should have avoided like a stale profiterole…
Best Team
Total points: 238
Budget: $99.0 million
Pierre Gasly: 16 points
Lando Norris: 17 points
Valtteri Bottas: 35 points
Charles Leclerc: 44 points
Daniel Ricciardo: 58 points (Turbo Driver)
Constructor: Mercedes – 68 points
It’s been tough going for Pierre Gasly recently. But both he and Lando Norris benefitted from their rise from the back of the grid to 11th and 10th respectively in Monza to earn their places in the ‘Best Team’ this week.
Further up the field, meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas may not have won the race, but he did take second while also securing his eighth appearance in the ‘Best Team’ in 2019 – the most of any driver on the grid this year.
Charles Leclerc did win the race – and having scored his second pole-and-win in as many weeks, he once again found himself in the ‘Best Team’ (as he was post-Spa), although team mate Sebastian Vettel’s tricky Italian Grand Prix meant that Mercedes, rather than Ferrari, proved to be the better constructor to have.
Rounding out the five drivers was Daniel Ricciardo, who took his and Renault’s best result of the season, and earned himself the Turbo Driver nod too. Fair dinkum, mate.
Worst Team
Total points: -37
Budget: $71.5 million
Sebastian Vettel: 1 point
Kevin Magnussen: -22 points (Turbo Driver)
Carlos Sainz: -6 points
Daniil Kvyat: -11 points
Robert Kubica: 0 points
Constructor: Haas – 1 point
Contrasting fortunes don’t get much more contrast-y than Leclerc and Vettel’s weekends in Monza, Seb earning just one F1 Fantasy point, having dropped from fourth on the grid to 13th by the race end thanks to his Lap 6 spin.
That was, at least, one more point than Robert Kubica earned, as he found himself beaten once again by his impressive Williams team mate George Russell.
All three retirees find themselves in the ‘Worst Team’ too, Kevin Magnussen and Carlos Sainz for the second race in a row, while Haas were the constructor to avoid, as they were in Belgium, after another challenging race-day performance.
