BARCELONA, SPAIN - JUNE 04: Race winner Oliver Bearman of Great Britain and PREMA Racing (8)

Oliver Bearman secured his third race victory of the 2023 FIA Formula 2 season, converting pole position in the Barcelona Feature Race.

The PREMA Racing and Ferrari Academy star drove a mature race from P1 on the grid, extending his first stint further than his closest rivals in the opening phase of the race up to his pitstop.

From there, the Briton cleared the traffic ahead in those yet-to-pit running the alternative strategy, which proved to be crucial in the latter stages.

Enzo Fittipaldi had hounded Bearman in the early laps, but the Rodin Carlin and Red Bull Junior Team driver couldn’t keep pace with the eventual winner and had to settle for second.

In fact, the Brazilian had to keep an eye on his mirrors as a late charge from Victor Martins earned the Frenchman P3, just 0.6s back from Fittipaldi at the chequered flag.

Martins opted to run the alternative strategy, running the hard tyres for as long as possible before a late switch to softs. He made his mandatory pitstop on Lap 26, and quickly passed Jack Doohan and Ayumu Iwasa in the fight for the final podium place.

Further back, Frederik Vesti maintained the lead of the Championship with a P5 finish running the same strategy as Martins. The Dane couldn’t quite find a route past Iwasa for fourth but extended his lead in the standings over closest rival, Théo Pourchaire.

The Sauber Academy driver ended up seventh behind Doohan, while Arthur Leclerc and Richard Verschoor rounded out the points-paying positions in ninth and 10th.
