MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - APRIL 02: Race winner Gabriel Bortoleto of Brazil and Trident (5) celebrates

Gabriel Bortoleto took his second successive Formula 3 Feature Race win, leading from pole position from lights to flag. Bortoleto withstood pressure from Gregoire Saucy behind as the ART Grand Prix driver had to settle for second. Alpine Academy and Hitech Pulse-Eight driver Gabriele Mini was third after a defensive drive for the final spot on the podium.

Bortoleto converted his pole into a comfortable early lead on, although Saucy and Mini behind remained in DRS range. An early Safety Car was deployed following contact between Luke Browning and Franco Colapinto on Lap 2. It left the MP Motorsport and Williams Academy man in the barriers at Turn 5 having sustained a puncture.

Fernando Alonso protoge Josep Maria Marti enjoyed a storming start, going from 30th and last on the grid to 21st by the end of the first lap. Following the restart, he was battling through the order and cleared Campos Racing team mate Christian Mansell for 12th by halfway.

A second Safety Car bunched the field back up and racing resumed on Lap 16, with Marti on the move again. He took 11th from Oliver Goethe and 10th from Jonny Edgar in successive laps, putting a bold move on the latter by going all the way around the outside at Turn 9.

Bortoleto kept Saucy at arm’s length to the very end despite the ART Grand Prix driver remaining within DRS range all the way to the chequered flag. A final lap touch between Ferrari Academy and PREMA Racing driver Dino Beganovic and Caio Collet left both with damage, and Marti snuck through for P9 to cap off a stellar comeback drive.
