F3: O’Sullivan storms into title contention with Budapest Feature Race victory
From lights out to the chequered flag, Zak O’Sullivan was in complete control throughout the 19 laps of Formula 3 Feature Race action at the Hungaroring. Nailing his getaway and extending his lead lap-by-lap, the Briton secured his third win of the 2023 campaign, elevating him five places to second in the standings and into the championship hunt.
Dino Beganovic ran his own race with no interruptions, finishing comfortably in second to complete a one-two finish for PREMA Racing. MP Motorsport’s Franco Colapinto got the move done in the opening phase from fourth on the grid to round out the podium in third.
F3: Mini overcomes late drama for Sprint Race victory in Budapest
Trident’s Oliver Goethe added more points to his tally in fourth. Mercedes junior Paul Aron lost out off the line but made up ground to secure back-to-back top five finishes.
Having qualified in 13th, Josep Maria Marti kept his title dreams alive with a blistering drive through the field to sixth. Dispatching Campos Racing team mate Christian Mansell and Jonny Edgar with identical moves at Turn 1 on consecutive laps, he then went wheel-to-wheel with championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto, experiencing a huge lock up.
Edgar snatched eighth away from Leonardo Fornaroli on the final lap, as the Italian steadily slid down the order from third. Mari Boya took advantage of Mansell’s late tyre struggles to snatch the final point in 10th.
Bortoleto’s 13th consecutive points scoring finish means he could claim the F3 title in Belgium, moving him up to 144 points. O’Sullivan leaps up five places to second on 101, one point ahead of Marti.
F2: Doohan romps to dominant Feature Race win in Hungary
The F3 action continues with next weekend’s visit to Spa-Francorchamps for Round 9 from July 28-30.
