Campos Racing’s David Vidales achieved the first victory of his Formula 3 career in the Sprint Race – at both his and his team’s home round – at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

Promoted to reverse grid pole following Zane Maloney’s penalty, the rookie driver got a strong getaway and led every lap of the race. This was despite coming under pressure from Red Bull junior Jak Crawford during the middle of the race.

The PREMA Racing driver made a lunge for the lead at Turn 1 but with nowhere else to go, he was forced to take a trip over the sausage kerbs and settle for second.

Juan Manuel Correa’s valiant efforts to hold on to a podium finish came undone in the final few laps when he was overtaken by Alpine junior Caio Collet and Ferrari junior Arthur Leclerc, and the ART Grand Prix driver took the chequered flag in fifth.

MP Motorsport’s Alexander Smolyar climbed up four places to finish sixth, ahead of Hitech Grand Prix’s Kaylen Frederick and Trident’s Roman Stanek. Reece Ushijima secured his first championship points in ninth for Van Amersfoort Racing, as Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar rounded out the top 10.

After securing his first-ever pole position in Friday’s qualifying, Trident’s Roman Stanek will be hoping to follow in Vidales’ footsteps to achieve his second victory of the season in the Feature Race on Sunday, 1005 local time.
