FORMULA 3: Armstrong takes first FIA F3 victory in reverse grid Hungary race
Share
Before Round 5 of the Formula 3 Championship, Marcus Armstrong had yet to finish higher than second, even though he had spent more laps than any other driver in the top three. Reverse grid pole– courtesy of a P8 finish in the Feature Race – gave him the opportunity to change that. He duly obliged.
A clean getaway at the start went some way to help him build a mammoth 12s gap between himself and second placed Leonardo Pulcini, while a further 18s separated them from Jake Hughes in 3rd, come the chequered flag.
The Briton had beaten Juri Vips on the penultimate lap for the second race in a row, skating past the Estonian down the pit straight for his second podium of the weekend.
A collision between Robert Shwartzman and Felipe Drugovich battered the former’s front wing and forced him into retirement, allowing Vips to cut into his Championship lead. The gap between Vips and Shwartzman in the title race now stands at just 12 points.
All to play for in Belgium then.
