GALLERY: Ferrari unveil special livery for Miami Grand Prix

Ferrari have unveiled their special livery, featuring shades of blue, that will adorn the SF-24 at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix.

The one-off design change marks the 70th anniversary of Ferrari's presence in North America and features two historic shades of blue – Azzurro La Plata and Azzurro Dino.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will hit the Miami track in the new-look design with splashes of colour used on the wings, the engine cover, the halo, the rear-view mirrors, the race numbers and, in a nod to the past, on the wheel rims, as was the case back in the 1960s, starting with the 158 F1 in which John Surtees clinched the world championship title in North America, 60 years ago.

According to Ferrari, the special livery also "evokes memories of the single-seaters and sports cars entered by the American Ferrari importer, Luigi Chinetti, under the N.A.R.T. (North American Racing Team) banner."

In addition to the special livery design, Leclerc and Sainz, as well as almost all Ferrari team members, will be wearing a special team kit, mainly in Azzurro La Plata with flashes of Azzurro Dino, including the race suit, shoes, gloves and helmet.

The light blue of Azzurro La Plata was Argentina’s official race colour in the 1950s, similar to the colour worn by legendary Italian driver Alberto Ascari in his most successful years on track. The two-time world champion would always wear a shirt and helmet in this colour as a lucky charm.

The same colour was also seen on Ferrari drivers’ racing suits in the 1960s, including those of John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scarfiotti and Chris Amon. Niki Lauda's racing suit during his inaugural year with Ferrari was also in this shade of blue, as were the shirts worn by the Maranello workforce.

Azzurro Dino, the other blue colour being revived by Ferrari ahead of Miami, is a deeper shade which was also favoured by a number of drivers in the past, with Clay Regazzoni the most recent to wear it in 1974.

"The upcoming Miami Grand Prix will be one to remember in the history of our team, as in Florida we will be celebrating our heritage through a unique livery, rediscovering two colours that are part of our history," said Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur. "It will also be a very special race as we are glad to welcome the arrival of our new title partner HP."
