Max Verstappen equalled Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine consecutive race wins in splendid fashion with victory in the Dutch Grand Prix. The Red Bull man navigated the rain-hit and dramatic encounter throughout to also secure his third win in a row at the event itself.

Fernando Alonso secured second place – his first podium since the Canadian Grand Prix – while Pierre Gasly took P3 thanks to a late five-second penalty for Sergio Perez, who was punished for speeding in the pit lane.

The Grand Prix was one of the most eventful of the year, with the weather more than playing its part right from the get-go as a shower prompted split strategies up and down the order at the start.

The weather would again rear its head in the latter stages of the race, as a torrential downpour brought out the red flags shortly after Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu aquaplaned off at Turn 1 and into the barrier.

The race would then resume with seven laps to go, with Verstappen seeing off his rivals to take the chequered flag in front of his home crowd.
