Norris handed Styrian GP grid penalty for FP1 yellow flag infraction

He may have started last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix from a career-best P3 – but there’ll be no chance for Lando Norris to repeat those heroics this weekend, as the stewards handed him a three-place grid drop for Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix for overtaking under yellow flags during Free Practice 1.

The stewards found that McLaren driver Norris had passed the AlphaTauri of Pierre Gasly, along with the Racing Point of Sergio Perez, under yellow flags, brought out when Nicholas Latifi was forced to park up his Williams at Turn 5 with a gearbox issue.

And alongside two penalty points on his licence, the stewards slapped Norris with a three-place grid penalty – meaning that a repeat of his podium from last weekend may be slightly challenging this time around.

The penalty will be welcome news for Racing Point, with Perez having lost out to Norris in the latter stages of the Austrian Grand Prix last week – while the Mexican got his Styrian Grand Prix weekend off to a bang by heading FP1, as Norris could only manage P14.
