The Canadian Grand Prix has served up plenty of epic battles through its illustrious history, and this upcoming weekend is set to be no different. As F1 moves on to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal for the latest round of the 2023 season we’ve looked back through the archive and picked out five great battles on the track.

Championship leader Max Verstappen will be one of the hot favourites again this time out, but in 2016 the Dutchman’s battle with Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg caught the attention. A young Verstappen showcased his talented credentials against the would-be world champion Rosberg in that race, with the German eventually making a mistake and sliding off the track as he attempted to pass.

And who can forget the 2011 edition of the race, the longest in F1 history, that featured an incredible amount of drama for fans watching on?

A certain Michael Schumacher – racing for Mercedes – proved he still had plenty of tricks up his sleeve as he snuck up the inside to pass Felipe Massa and Kamui Kobayashi in a brilliant three-way tussle in that eventful race.
