WATCH: Drama for Mercedes as Russell stoppage causes red flag on day two of testing
Share
George Russell’s running on the second day of pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit came to a grinding halt after a hydraulic failure struck his Mercedes.
Russell had racked up 26 laps and was lying P13 after taking over from team mate Lewis Hamilton for the afternoon session when he hit trouble under braking for Turn 4 – a ‘hydraulic failure’ message appearing on his steering wheel as he came down the gears.
Russell crawled around for the next few corners before parking up at the exit of Turn 10 – when an additional ‘anti-stall’ note showed on his dash – and hopping out of the stricken W14, with Mercedes later confirming the hydraulic issue and a spokesperson adding that it was “highly unlikely the car will be back out today”.
