Was 2022 the season Sergio Perez would have envisaged when he first climbed aboard the all-conquering Red Bull RB18? Probably not – but there were still some special highlights for the Mexican along the way.
Perez started the year strongly, at times looking the more comfortable of the two Red Bull drivers, as eventual champion Max Verstappen struggled with the car’s reluctant front end, which played perfectly to Perez’s more classic, understeer-focused style.

But as the season went on, the RB18 came more and more towards Verstappen, the Dutchman eventually dominating the title fight.
But although Verstappen would eventually rack up a record-setting 15 wins, Perez was still able to take multiple victories for the first time in his career – winning out in Monaco and Singapore – as well as claiming his maiden pole position in Saudi Arabia, while helping Red Bull to their first constructors’ title since 2013.
