WATCH: Leclerc and Verstappen’s final Singapore qualifying laps compared

While Charles Leclerc stormed to pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix, Max Verstappen had to settle for P8 after abandoning his final lap. But how was the battle shaping up before the Dutchman returned to the pits?
Ferrari driver Leclerc came out on top amid a flurry of late improvements in Saturday’s qualifying session, the Monegasque’s benchmark time of 1m 49.412s putting him 0.022s clear of Red Bull rival Sergio Perez and 0.054s ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes.
Verstappen looked set to join the trio, going almost a second quicker than Leclerc through the middle sector, and claiming that he had been almost three seconds up on his own delta time – only for his final lap to be called off by Red Bull when he “ran out of fuel”.
