Few people in the history of the sport have had as much impact on Formula 1 as Sir Jackie Stewart.

One of the dominant drivers of his day he won three world championship titles, picking up 27 victories in just 99 races along the way.

And he combined this on-track success with a tireless effort to improve safety in the sport, when it was a far from popular subject with the circuit owners who were loath to spend any money on safety measures at their tracks. But sickened by watching his fellow drivers injured or killed on a regular basis, Sir Jackie pressed on, and all of today's Grand Prix drivers owe their vastly improved safety conditions in part to his efforts.

But not content with being a world class driver and safety campaigner, Sir Jackie also went on to found his own F1 team and lead them to Grand Prix success – who can forget Johnny Herbert's shock victory at the 1999 European Grand Prix?
