Alpine bolster engine division with appointment of new power unit Technical Director Eric Meignan

Alpine have signed a new Technical Director with experience working for Mercedes and Ferrari to oversee their power unit division, Formula1.com has learned.

Eric Meignan started work at Alpine’s engine base in Viry this month, having recently left his role as Head of Department at Ferrari in Maranello.

He spent three-and-a-half years at the Italian marque, have previously held positions as Head of Department and Chief Engineer at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.

Meignan will take over the day-to-day running of the power unit division, reporting directly into Bruno Famin, who is responsible for all of Alpine’s motorsport activities.

“We can confirm that Eric Meignan has joined the team as Technical Director of Viry, reporting to Bruno Famin,” an Alpine spokesperson told F1.com.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise and will oversee the development of the Alpine PU, with a specific focus on the 2026 regulations.”

Meignan’s arrival gives Famin more capacity to focus on the strategic plan for Alpine, as he looks to rebuild the Formula 1 side of the business following a slew of management changes.

The team parted ways with Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer and Sporting Director Alan Permane during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend earlier this year. It came as news broke Pat Fry was leaving to join Williams as Chief Technical Officer, and following CEO Laurent Rossi being moved aside.

Famin’s vast responsibilities include being Interim Team Principal while Julian Rouse was named Interim Sporting Director and Matt Harman leading the technical team.
