BETTING GUIDE: What are the odds for the Austrian Grand Prix as the Sprint format returns
Fresh from a scintillating British Grand Prix, we head straight to Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix, which will witness the second of three Sprint events this season. Let’s check out the favourites ahead of the weekend, with odds provided by 188BET.
188BET's odds are presented in decimal form: for every $1 wagered you would win the figure represented by the odds; so, if Verstappen is favourite at 1.50, you would win $1.50 for every dollar bet.
The odds for the win
Max Verstappen will have a score to settle this weekend, having lost out on a chance of victory at the British Grand Prix after suffering floor damage to his Red Bull – allowing Carlos Sainz to come through and take his first F1 win.
FORM GUIDE: Who will ace the 2022 Austrian Grand Prix at the home of the Bulls?
But on Red Bull’s home ground, in front of a sea of orange-clad Dutch fans who like to make the trip to the Styrian Alps, and having comfortably won both races here last year – the Austrian and Styrian Grands Prix – Verstappen is very much in the driving seat odds-wise for the Grand Prix win.
Of course, the outcome of the Sprint on Saturday could have a big influence on that.
- Max Verstappen 1.90
- Charles Leclerc 3.25
- Sergio Perez 10.0
- Carlos Sainz, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton 13.0
- Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris, Valtteri Bottas 151
- Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly 301
- Esteban Ocon, Lance Stroll, Sebastian Vettel 601
- Alex Albon, Kevin Magnussen, Mick Schumacher, Nicholas Latifi, Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu 901
The odds for who will be fastest in qualifying
While Verstappen has six victories to Leclerc’s two in 2022, those numbers are inverted for pole positions – with Leclerc once again favourite in the running. Bear in mind, though, that qualifying will take place on Friday afternoon after just one practice session around the Red Bull Ring, meaning whoever can dial their settings in quickest could be in the best shape for qualifying.
As a reminder, whoever takes pole position will start the Sprint in P1 – with the winner of the Sprint then starting Sunday’s centrepiece Grand Prix in first place.
- Charles Leclerc 1.80
- Max Verstappen 2.60
- Sergio Perez 8.00
- Carlos Sainz 13.0
- George Russell, Lewis Hamilton 34.0
- Fernando Alonso 67.0
- Lando Norris 151
- Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, Sebastian Vettel, Valtteri Bottas 301
- Kevin Magnussen, Lance Stroll 601
- Alex Albon, Mick Schumacher, Nicholas Latifi, Yuki Tsunoda, Zhou Guanyu 901
The odds for a podium finish
While the odds are a little long for the Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Russell to claim either the win or pole position, they’re well in the mix in the podium stakes, although notably still behind both Red Bull and Ferrari’s drivers despite the W13’s extensive upgrade package at Silverstone.
THROUGH THE VISOR: Lando Norris recalls bagging his first F1 podium at the 2020 Austrian GP
Team boss Toto Wolff – who, by the by, used to be a racing instructor at the circuit – confirmed ahead of the weekend that they expected the Austrian Grand Prix weekend to be “difficult”, having traditionally been something of a thorn in the side of Mercedes in the calendar.
- Max Verstappen 1.25
- Charles Leclerc 1.40
- Sergio Perez 1.80
- Carlos Sainz 2.00
- Lewis Hamilton 3.00

- Mick Schumacher 201

The odds for fastest lap
Lewis Hamilton notched up his first fastest lap of the year at Silverstone, meaning the only Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes driver yet to claim one in 2022 is George Russell.
McLaren's Lando Norris – on the podium here in both 2020 and 2021 – is the other driver to have scored a fastest lap in 2022, while Leclerc has the most with three.
- Max Verstappen 2.10
- Charles Leclerc 2.50
- Sergio Perez 5.50
- Carlos Sainz 9.00

What are the odds for which team will take the most points?
Having won seven of the first 10 races of the year, as the season enters its midway point in Austria, it’s unsurprising to see Red Bull as favourites to claim most points this weekend at their home circuit in Spielberg.
- Red Bull 1.65
- Ferrari 2.80
- Mercedes 6.50
- Alpine, McLaren 151
- Alfa Romeo, Alpha Tauri, Aston Martin 201
- Haas 501
- Williams 901
