#BritishGP - the best social media from Silverstone

Sunday’s 2017 Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix provided fans with plenty of on-track action, but what was going on behind the scenes in the build-up to the Silverstone weekend? Here's just some of the highlights...

Billy's back

Just three months on from his life-changing F4 crash at Donington, 18-year-old British driver Billy Monger was a welcome visitor in the Mercedes garage.

Hamming it up

Lewis Hamilton fans can now add a range of special 'Hamojis' to their mobile messaging. Red Bull were quick to see the funny side...

Sainz symmetry

Not a good week for the Spanish in Great Britain. Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal crashed out of Wimbledon early. Friend and compatriot Carlos Sainz did the same at Silverstone. At least Rafa came away with a souvenir!

Sharp shooters

The Red Bull boys did their bit for good causes by taking aim at a few pigeons - of the clay variety, that is.

Football crazy

It doesn't appear that Felipe Massa is expecting his son to follow in his F1 footsteps - he seems to have another sporting career path in mind (and, like F1, it's one in which Brazilians have traditionally done quite well!)

On yer bike Button

He's already made one unexpected comeback this year - when he heard there was another on the cards, this probably wasn't what he had in mind...

Risky business

Not that we're supersticious about the British weather, but is it wise inviting into your Silverstone garage a band who best-known hits include the song 'Why does it always rain on me?'

Rolling back the years

She may be approaching her 80th birthday, but that didn't stop Irish rally driver Rosemary Smith sampling a Renault F1 car earlier this year, and she was reunited with the team at Silverstone.

Time for tea?

Renault have clearly taken to heart the old British axiom that everything seems better after a cup of tea - indeed, they have even created their own teapot (which just happens to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the French marque's F1 debut with the turbocharged RS01, a car which was quickly dubbed 'The Yellow Teapot' for its tendency to spout plumes of white gas).

Get the balance right

This amazing contraption - and its 'riders' - was just one of the great off-track attractions awaiting those attending the Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Look and learn

Head coach of the England national rugby union squad, Eddie Jones, was among the high-profile sporting visitors to Silverstone. Hoping to pick up some F1 teamwork tips perhaps?

English eccentricity

They say that when you dress for Silverstone, be prepared for anything - in terms of weather that is. With that in mind, we're not quite sure which forecast these fans looked at?

Lightning strikes

The scarlet cars in Sunday's race didn't have much luck in staying ahead of the silver ones - perhaps this familiar red machine would have fared better?

Where's the wing(er)?

There's definitely something missing from the front of that Red Bull. Not sure British and Irish Lions international rugby star George North has noticed, though…

Blast from the past

Nigel Mansell's 1992 title-winning Williams FW14B is a part of F1 folklore - no wonder drivers are queuing up to have a go!

Double entendre, that is, in true British 'Carry on film' style...

The car's the star...

Hollywood comes to Silverstone in the form of Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, stars of the new Cars 3 release. Oh, and some bloke called Hamilton is in it too apparently...

If only...

...we had actually got to see Williams' Felipe Massa in a bearskin.

Olympic double act

They are no strangers to high speeds on four wheels (four wheels between them, that is) - it's Great Britain's cycling gold medallists Jason and Laura Kenny.

And the award goes to...

Lewis Hamilton picked up a trophy even before he won Sunday's Grand Prix at Silverstone - this one is named after 1958 world champion Mike Hawthorne and is presented annually to the most successful British or Commonwealth driver in Formula 1.

Frank in a Ferrari?

Former WBC heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno surveys his Silverstone ride. If he thinks that's tight, just wait until he sees the Italian machines that Vettel and Raikkonen have to squeeze into!
