Codemasters update F1 2020 game with Mercedes’ new black livery

Codemasters have updated the brand new F1 2020 game to include Mercedes' stunning new black livery, along with black race suits for Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton's in-game avatars.

Patch 1.06 brings the new look Mercedes W11 to F1 2020 on PC, with an update for Xbox, PlayStation 4 and Stadia expected to land within the next couple of days – with a couple of bug fixes thrown in for good measure.

Mercedes' new livery saw the team swap their traditional silver for black for the 2020 F1 season to reflect the manufacturer's stand against racism and push for diversity, amid the global Black Lives Matter protests.

“Racism and discrimination have no place in our society, our sport or our team: this is a core belief of Mercedes,” said Team Principal Toto Wolff when the new livery was revealed back in June. “But having the right beliefs and the right mindset isn’t enough if we remain silent.

“We wish to use our voice and our global platform to speak up for respect and equality, and the Silver Arrow will race in black for the entire 2020 season to show our commitment to greater diversity within our team and our sport,” he added.

Hamilton has been one of the most vocal sports stars on the issues of racism and diversity, having knelt at every race in support of Black Lives Matter while also calling for more women to be given positions in F1, and bringing Petronas engineer Steph Travers up to the Styrian Grand Prix podium. The reigning champion has also launched a new commission to encourage diversity in motorsport and beyond.

F1 2020 is out now for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X, Windows PC (DVD and via Steam), and Google Stadia.
