Contrasting tyre choices for Ferrari and Red Bull in Japan

Share

F1 tyre suppliers Pirelli have revealed the compound allocations selected by teams for the forthcoming 2016 Formula 1 Emirates Japanese Grand Prix, with their soft rubber very much the preferred option.

With the orange-marked hard, white-marked medium and yellow-marked soft compounds available for the Suzuka race, most teams have chosen softs for at least seven of their 13 sets of tyres for the weekend.

Most aggressive on strategy have been Ferrari, with both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen going for nine sets of the quickest, least durable compound. Vettel has combined these with one set of mediums and three sets of hards, while Raikkonen has chosen two sets of each.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, most conservative in their selections are Red Bull, with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen having six sets of softs at their disposal, plus three sets of mediums and four sets of hards.
