Crypto.com Overtake Award 2021
The brand-new Crypto.com Overtake Award has been created to reward the individual driver who makes the most overtakes throughout the 2021 season. The award, which is the first of its kind, is designed to celebrate the bravery exhibited by drivers who make bold moves in pursuit of success. The winner - Sebastian Vettel - is presented with a trophy at the end of the season, and you can see the leaderboard - and individual race details - below...
Round 22 - Abu Dhabi
His last race in Formula 1, but former champ Kimi Raikkonen kept pushing to the end. The Iceman started a lowly 18th for Alfa Romeo, but pulled off six overtakes to run as high as 11th at Yas Marina before car problems brought a premature end to his swansong Grand Prix. That tally was matched by two potential future champions: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc – who dropped to P16 at one point before battling back to 10th – and 14th-place Haas finisher, Mick Schumacher.
Round 21 - Saudi Arabia
You just cannot stop Sebastian Vettel overtaking people. The four-time world champ may have retired his damaged Aston Martin on Lap 45 of 50 – having endured contact with Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Raikkonen in separate incidents – but not before he’d passed a total of 12 rivals around the ultra-fast Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Round 20 - Qatar
He may have just missed out on a podium after a late Virtual Safety Car in Qatar, but Sergio Perez’s charge through the field was nevertheless a sight to behold, the Mexican going from 11th on the grid to fourth at the flag - completing an astounding 17 overtakes along the way - to help bring Red Bull to within five points of Mercedes in the constructors’ title fight.
Round 19 - Brazil
After finding himself starting last for the F1 Sprint, and then only 10th for the Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton knew he’d have to pull off his fair share of overtakes in Sao Paulo to keep his title challenge alive – and boy, did he deliver. A total of 25 passes from Mercedes’ seven-time champ took him to victory, the 101st of his illustrious F1 career to date.
Round 18 - Mexico
He started 19th, was almost taken out on Lap 1 (after being dramatically sandwiched between a Haas and an AlphaTauri) and could ultimately finish no higher than P13. Nevertheless, Esteban Ocon had a racy afternoon in Mexico City, pulling off no less than 10 overtakes around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez – more than any other driver on the grid.
Round 17 - United States
Two world champions and an F1 rising star. All three pulled off six overtakes in the United States Grand Prix. Our overall leader Sebastian Vettel took a 10th-place finish and a world championship point, while Kimi Raikkonen proved his fighting spirit is still very much alive with his passes including this much-talked-about move on Fernando Alonso. As for George Russell, all of his came on this stunning opening lap around the Circuit of The Americas.
Round 16 - Turkey
Carlos Sainz began the Turkish Grand Prix weekend with a grid penalty for taking a new spec Ferrari power unit, ensuring he would start Sunday's race from the back row. But by the time the chequered flag flew, the Spaniard was up to eighth place and beaming – calling it "one of my most enjoyable races as a racing driver". Along the way he pulled off 12 overtaking moves – the most of any driver in the race.
Round 15 - Russia
Starting from the back row of the grid meant Charles Leclerc was always going to have his work cut out if he was to achieve a good result in the Russian Grand Prix. In the end, points proved too much of an ask, despite an incredible opening lap that saw him make up seven positions to run 12th. When the rain hit late in the race, he dropped out of the points and eventually finished 15th – but he ended the day having pulled off the most overtaking moves of any driver in the race.
Round 14 - Italy
Valtteri Bottas was fastest in qualifying on Friday and won the Saturday Sprint at Monza – but a grid penalty incurred for changing a raft of power unit components meant he was forced to start from the back of the grid in the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday. But being on top form – and armed with a very quick Mercedes – it is perhaps no surprise the Finn completed the most overtakes of any driver across the weekend as he went from P19 at the start to P3 at the flag.

Round 13 - Netherlands
Starting from the pit lane after qualifying woes, we knew we'd get a hard-charging drive from Sergio Perez at Zandvoort, and the Red Bull man did not disappoint - the Mexican pulled off a race-best 10 passes as he hauled himself up to a P8 finish...
