F2: Bearman takes victory at Monza as Vesti suffers blow to title hopes
Share
Oliver Bearman claimed his fourth victory of the 2023 Formula 2 season, managing several Safety Car restarts comfortably for the Monza Feature Race win.
The PREMA Racing driver took the lead on the opening lap after starting second on the grid, clearing Championship leader Théo Pourchaire on the run to Turn 4.

From there, the Ferrari Academy Driver kept himself out of the trouble ensuing behind him and successfully held on to the lead at four separate Safety Car restarts to claim his first victory since the Barcelona Feature Race.
Teammate Frederik Vesti suffered a huge hit to his title chances though, crashing out on the opening lap. The Mercedes Junior Team driver had been fighting with Trident’s Roman Stanek out of the second chicane over third but was squeezed onto the grass and into a spin.
The resulting contact with the barriers put the Dane on the sidelines, and he could only watch as rival Pourchaire claimed an important third place to extend his advantage in the standings to 25 points.
Ayumu Iwasa was second for DAMS after making the alternate strategy work to claim second place from 13th on the grid. The Red Bull Junior Team driver was back on the podium and in the points for the first time since the Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps back in July.

Fellow Red Bull junior Enzo Fittipaldi took fourth for Rodin Carlin ahead of MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger, who rounded out the top five.
A late tangle between Stanek and Hitech Pulse-Eight driver Jak Crawford brought the Safety Car out for the fifth and final time with just two laps remaining. After all of the chaos, the race ended under Safety Car conditions.
