Alpine junior Oscar Piastri continued his sparkling run of form with a second successive Feature Race win in Formula 2, putting in a commanding performance over Sauber Academy Driver Theo Pourchaire to increase his advantage at the top of the drivers’ championship in Sochi.

Although the victory rarely looked in doubt, Piastri hailed the morning’s work as “probably one of the hardest races of my life” on team radio. The Australian was foot to throttle for all 28 laps, as he sought to prevent Pourchaire from getting within DRS range.

Red Bull junior Jehan Daruvala recovered from a poor start to take the final spot on the podium, albeit more than 10s behind the front two.

Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman was unable to take a second podium on home soil, finishing in fourth ahead of Dan Ticktum. Guanyu Zhou’s title bid took a battering as the Alpine F1 team's Test Driver could only manage sixth at the flag after a poor getaway dropped him to eighth off the line.

Red Bull junior Liam Lawson salvaged seventh after falling to 13th in the opening laps, finishing ahead of Richard Verschoor, Alpine junior Christian Lundgaard and David Beckmann.

Piastri has a 36-point advantage over Zhou with two rounds to go. The field will now take a two-month break before returning to action in Jeddah at the first Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
