Taylor Barnard took his first FIA Formula 3 victory as he won a Spa-Francorchamps Feature Race defined by split tyre strategy. The Briton was one of the few drivers on the grid that opted to start on wet tyres, which turned out to be the correct call.

Moving up from 10th to second on the opening lap, the Jenzer Motorsport driver decided to stay out during an early Safety Car and inherited the lead after PREMA Racing’s Paul Aron was brought in for slicks.

From there, Barnard held off Campos Racing driver Christian Mansell to secure the top spot, his first victory in the championship and Jenzer’s first since Yuki Tsunoda’s 2019 Monza win with the team.

P2 was Mansell’s best F3 result, while Nikita Bedrin made it two Jenzers on the podium, rounding out the top three finishers.

In the title fight, Gabriel Bortoleto came up just short of sealing the drivers’ championship at the first opportunity.

The Trident driver made a late-race fightback having started 15th and fallen to P20 in the early phase. He ended up in P11 after a last-lap battle with MP Motorsport and Williams Academy driver Franco Colapinto for the final point.

F2: Fittipaldi leaves it late in Spa Sprint Race for maiden victory

The Brazilian is just two points away from being crowned the 2023 Formula 3 drivers’ champion, but he’ll have to wait until the finale at Monza for the chance.
