MONZA, ITALY - SEPTEMBER 02: Race winner Franco Colapinto of Argentina and MP Motorsport (10)

Franco Colapinto duelled with MP Motorsport teammate Mari Boya for the Sprint Race lead, but ultimately managed to make a break for it when it counted to claim his fourth victory in Formula 3 – matching the all-time record.

Losing out from reverse grid pole off the line, Colapinto and Boya exchanged the lead four time, but the Williams junior sprinted off in the final five laps to clinch the win.

Having already been crowned Champion, Gabriel Bortoleto didn’t let up, dispatching Boya on the final lap to claim second, as the Spaniard took his maiden podium in third.

Disaster struck for top two contenders Paul Aron and new Red Bull junior Josep Maria Marti on the opening lap. Slight contact between Caio Collet and Aron gave the PREMA Racing car a puncture, sending him spinning into the path of Marti and Jonny Edgar to bring out the Safety Car.

Taylor Barnard secured more points for Jenzer Motorsport in fourth, as Williams junior Luke Browning blistered through the field from P27 on the grid, after all three Hitech Pulse-Eight cars were disqualified from Qualifying. Overtaking Leonardo Fornaroli on the penultimate lap, the Briton eventually claimed fifth.

Oliver Goethe put all three Tridents inside the top seven, ahead of Alpine junior Gabriele Mini, who made up 18 places. Christian Mansell and Nikola Tsolov completed the top 10 after Zak O’Sullivan received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with Gregoire Saucy, demoting him from P5 to P12.

Four points off the lead of the Teams’ Championship, Trident will look to seal the deal as Goethe lines up on pole for the final race of the season. Sunday’s Feature Race starts 08:15 local time.
