F3: Voisin takes maiden pole position at dramatic Spa qualifying
Rodin Motorsport’s Callum Voisin was in terrific form on Friday afternoon as the British rookie took his maiden Formula 3 pole position following an intense qualifying at Spa.
Voisin completed a final lap of 2m 4.321s to take top spot late on, eclipsing his MP Motorsport rival Alexander Dunne’s previous benchmark time by 0.123s.
The McLaren-backed Dunne had looked set for his maiden pole but will instead settle for his first front row start in F3 with Trident’s Leonardo Fornaroli the lead Championship contender in P3.
Sebastián Montoya was another to score his best qualifying result in Formula 3, the Campos Racing driver in fourth ahead of Van Amersfoort Racing’s Noel León in fifth.
Max Esterson impressed for Jenzer Motorsport to qualify in P6 ahead of another title challenger Luke Browning. The Hitech Pulse-Eight driver had been down in P20 after his first two laps but put in a battling late effort to go up to seventh.
Sami Meguetounif and Santiago Ramos were in P8 and P10 for Trident, with the second MP car of Tim Tramnitz sandwiched between the pair.
