FACTS AND STATS: First pole and front row lock-out for Ferrari in the States since 2006

Charles Leclerc grabbed the first pole position at the Miami International Autodrome, beating his team mate by just under two tenths of a second. It was a return to form for the Scuderia after losing out to Red Bull last time out, with both drivers impressing in the Sunshine State. But while there was joy for the men in scarlet, there was disappointment elsewhere with plenty of big names knocked out in Q2. Here are the best facts and stats from qualifying in Miami…

• Miami marks Ferrari’s first front row lock-out since Mexico 2019.

• Charles Leclerc’s four previous race wins have all come from pole position.

• Carlos Sainz secured his second career front row start.

• This marked Ferrari’s first pole and front row lock-out on American soil since Indianapolis in 2006 (Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa).

• Max Verstappen missed out on the front row by just 0.005s.

• Sergio Perez maintains his run of starting in the top four at every race this season.

• Valtteri Bottas starts fifth, which is Alfa Romeo’s best starting slot in nearly three years, since Kimi Raikkonen qualified P5 in Germany in 2019.

• Lewis Hamilton has made Q3 three times this year, and starts on the third row for the third time.

• Hamilton also qualified outside of the top five in the USA for the first time in his career.

• Pierre Gasly starts seventh – both his and his team’s best qualifying of the season.

• Lando Norris made Q3 for the third straight race.

• Yuki Tsunoda made Q3 for the first time this season, as did Lance Stroll.

• Fernando Alonso, George Russell and Sebastian Vettel were all within 0.086s of making Q3 in a tight Q2 session.

• Alonso loses his record of making Q3 at every race this season, the only driver other than the Red Bull and Ferrari boys to do so.

• Russell was eliminated in Q2 for the second straight race.

• Daniel Ricciardo was out-qualified by his team mate for the ninth straight race.
