FACTS AND STATS: Hamilton is 2024’s second multiple winner as McLaren hit 10 podiums in a row

As we head into the summer break, the Belgian Grand Prix proved that predicting how the rest of the 2024 season will pan out is anybody’s guess. Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes have all dominated races and seven men have won Grands Prix. Here’s our round-up of the fascinating figures after Spa-Francorchamps…

• Lewis Hamilton is the first driver other than Max Verstappen to win multiple Grands Prix in a season since April last year (Sergio Perez).

• Prior to George Russell’s disqualification, today’s result was set to be Mercedes’ 60th 1-2 finish in F1 and would have been only their second in the last four years (the last being Sao Paulo 2022 with Russell and Hamilton).

• Russell’s initial celebrations came a day after ‘Norfolk Day’, the day of celebrations in his home county in England.

• Russell’s only podium finish at Spa remains his half-points podium for Williams in 2021.

• Today’s win for Hamilton was his 11th podium finish at Spa.

• It was Hamilton’s fourth podium finish in the last five Grands Prix after no podiums in the first nine races of the year.

• With Oscar Piastri in P2, McLaren were on the podium for the 10th consecutive Grand Prix.

• Piastri retired in a collision at the first corner of the race last year.

DRIVER OF THE DAY: Hamilton gets your vote after Mercedes showdown at Spa

• The top three finishers on track were separated by 1.173s, the closest finish without any safety car intervention since the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, when Hamilton deliberately back up the field (0.843s).

• Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took the flag in P4 and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in P5, as they did at the last round in Hungary.

• Leclerc started from pole, making it the sixth consecutive race where the polesitter has failed to win, the longest streak since 2009/2010.

• Leclerc has not finished on the podium since winning the Monaco Grand Prix.

He couldn't beat his team mate, but Sergio Perez did set the fastest lap of the race

• Verstappen has finished fifth on track in three of the last four races, after his three previous fifth-place finishes were spread across the previous five seasons (2019-2023).

• P5 for McLaren’s Lando Norris was his best-ever finish at Spa from six career starts.

• P6 for Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz has dropped him behind Piastri in the drivers' championship.

• Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished in P7. He also set the fastest lap for the first time this season.

• With P8 for Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso scored points on the day before his 43rd birthday.

• Alpine’s Esteban Ocon took P9 to secure his fourth points finish of the season. The previous three were for 10th place, the position in which he finished today prior to Russell’s disqualification.
