Max Verstappen was the star of the show at the Red Bull Ring on Saturday, claiming both the Sprint win and pole position for the Grand Prix during qualifying. Here are the best facts and stats from qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix…

  • Verstappen achieved his fifth consecutive Grand Prix pole at the Red Bull Ring – the first time he has managed this at any circuit.

  • Lando Norris’s P2 time means the front row of the grid is identical to the Sprint.

  • Meanwhile, George Russell’s P3 is his best-ever qualifying result at the Red Bull Ring.

  • Carlos Sainz out-qualified Charles Leclerc for the first time in seven Grands Prix with his run to fourth.

  • Lewis Hamilton’s P5 meant he qualified in the top six for a Grand Prix for only the second time this season (he started third in Spain).

  • After a mistake on his final lap left him sixth, Charles Leclerc has not secured a top-four start since winning his home race in Monaco.

Verstappen bagged another pole at the Red Bull Ring to set a new personal record.

  • Oscar Piastri originally qualified third but dropped back to seventh when his final Q3 lap was deleted.

  • Sergio Perez’s P8 marks his first top-10 start in the last five Grand Prix weekends.

  • Qualifying ninth, Nico Hulkenberg reached Q3 for the fifth time this season.

  • Esteban Ocon’s run to P10 was his second consecutive Q3 appearance, while also marking the first time he has out-qualified team mate Pierre Gasly in four Grands Prix.

  • Daniel Ricciardo out-qualified team mate Yuki Tsunoda for only the third time in 11 qualifying sessions this year, and he missed out on a Q3 spot by only 0.015s.

  • Kevin Magnussen’s run to P12 on the grid yielded his best Grand Prix qualifying position of the season.

Ocon turned the tables on team mate Gasly after being out-performed at recent events

  • Tsunoda qualified 14th for both the Sprint race and Grand Prix.

  • Alex Albon dropped out in both SQ1 and Q1 after finishing the Grand Prix qualifying session in 16th place.

  • Albon’s result also meant he dropped out in Q1 for the second Grand Prix weekend in a row.

  • Lance Stroll’s P17 resulted in his second Q1 elimination of the season (the other coming in Japan)

  • Valtteri Bottas has now been eliminated in Q1 in five of the last six events.
