FORMULA 3: Vips snatches pole in frantic finale to Silverstone qualifying
Juri Vips kept the Championship leaders off pole positon in FIA Formula 3 Qualifying, lapping faster than all three PREMA men during an intense end to session at Silverstone. No fewer than five drivers held first in the final 90 seconds, but Vips was quicker than them all and nabbed P1 with his last lap.
The Estonian driver had diced with the positon throughout the session but couldn’t make it stick, as Armstrong and Niko Kari both took turns at the summit. The Red Bull Junior thought he had sealed it during the final few minutes after beating Kari, only for Pedro Piquet to lap Silverstone faster.
Robert Shwartzman and Armstrong both stole pole at the death, only for Vips to draw further pace from his Hitech machine and reclaim it as the final car across the line, ahead of Armstrong and Daruvala.
