Lando Norris set the pace in the sole practice session of the weekend, narrowly leading the way from the Mercedes of George Russell and Haas youngster Ollie Bearman.
The hour of practice was the drivers’ only chance to get used to the newly resurfaced track ahead of the competitive running, with Sprint Qualifying first on the order later today.
FP1: Norris leads Russell and substitute Bearman in sole Sao Paulo Grand Prix practice session
After bolting on the soft tyres in FP1, Russell set a time of 1m 10.791s, just 0.014s clear of Bearman who is driving in place of the unwell Kevin Magnussen. He stayed at the top for the majority of the session until Norris clocked an impressive 1m 10.610s in his final attempt of the morning.
Facing high track temperatures and a bumpy tarmac, Oscar Piastri slotted into P4 as McLaren tested their upgraded rear wing that could help them secure a strong result at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
He was followed by Alex Albon and the two Ferraris as Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10.
