Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in a tricky first practice session for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, leading the way from his Mercedes team mate George Russell and McLaren's Lando Norris.
In the first on-track action of the weekend, the grid faced the challenge of an extremely low-grip and dusty surface which saw lap times drop rapidly as the conditions improved, although many drivers brought out brief yellow flags as they skidded onto the run-off areas.
FP1: Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 during first practice in Las Vegas
Following a disheartening Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Hamilton set the pace with a time of 1m 35.001s as he got the better of Russell by just under four-tenths of a second.
Norris found himself even further back as Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz narrowly slotted in behind – the latter temporarily went fastest but had a close call with the Williams of Franco Colapinto.
The lower half of the top 10 saw Fernando Alonso ahead of Oscar Piastri, with Pierre Gasly and Sergio Perez rounding it out after setting their quickest laps on the soft tyres.
