Max Verstappen returned to his status as the driver to beat as he claimed pole position for Saturday’s Sprint around the Circuit of The Americas, whilst his championship rival Lando Norris settled for P4.
The Dutchman narrowly beat George Russell to first place as he set a rapid lap time of 1m 32.833s with his final attempt of the session, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc slotted into P3 ahead of Norris.
The biggest shock came in the form of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri enduring a bombshell exit in SQ1 after his second timed lap was deleted for track limits, leaving him starting tomorrow’s 19-lap Sprint towards the back of the grid.

Sergio Perez was also knocked out in SQ2, leaving championship contenders McLaren and Red Bull with just one driver each in the top 10.
Further back, the Haas duo of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magussen put together some impressive laps to start the Sprint from P6 and P8 respectively, sandwiching the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.
