Despite struggling with his wrists, Lance Stroll set the sixth-quickest time, as the Aston Martin driver finished ahead of the Alpine of Pierre Gasly, in seventh, the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, in eighth and 13th respectively and Carlos Sainz in 14th.
