Lando Norris took a scintillating pole by 0.084s from McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri in a thrilling qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix.
After making errors on their opening laps in Q3, the McLaren pairing pulled things together to lock out the front row of the grid. Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start third, 0.385s back, with Mercedes' George Russell alongside him.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton could manage only seventh and eighth for Ferrari.
It was a day to forget for Liam Lawson and Kimi Antonelli in the second Red Bull and Mercedes cars, with the two drivers dropping out in Q1. Lawson will line-up in 18th ahead of only the Haas drivers, while Antonelli is 16th.
Ollie Bearman will start from the back of the grid after a gearbox issue meant he failed to set a time. Ahead of the Grand Prix, the Briton has completed only 14-and-a-half laps.
