How to get to and from the Qatar Grand Prix
Getting to and from the Lusail International Circuit is simple, but it’s best to plan your route in advance to catch all the action and make the most of your time in Qatar.
The circuit is located on the outskirts of the capital city, Doha. We suggest using public transport where possible, with a number of options to get you right to the heart of the action. Read on for more information.
Despite shifting from early October to late November/early December, Qatar is still a great warm weather destination for F1 fans, with the prospect of some excellent racing under the lights to boot.
Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the circuit too. When Formula 1 visits Qatar, the circuit is a very popular destination!
Transport
Doha has a cost-effective and efficient metro system that many fans use as part of their journey to the circuit. The Red Line takes you from the city centre to Lusail station, and travel cards are easy to purchase at one of the multiple vending machines at each station.
The metro begins operations from around 05:30 Saturday-Thursday, though it is important to note that operations do not start on Fridays until 14:00, so be aware of this if you're heading to see the action that day. The metro runs until around 00:00 Saturday-Wednesday, and until 01:00 on Thursday-Friday.
Although the metro doesn’t take fans directly to the venue itself, it runs in conjunction with a complimentary return shuttle service that takes fans to the gates at the circuit.
Another easy way of getting to the circuit is to travel by taxi, a common transport method in Qatar. You can either book a taxi service in advance or hail one from the street, and there are designated drop-off points at the circuit for these services.
Traffic can be busy during the race weekend, so it's important to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for your journey to and from the circuit.
Getting into the circuit
There are multiple entrances into the circuit, and information about which access gate is best for you can be found on your ticket. The F1 Race Guide App also features a circuit map to help see which entrance is best for you.
Additionally, there will be signposts around the venue to help you find your entry point.
Gate opening times will be confirmed nearer to the event:
- Friday: TBC
- Saturday: TBC
- Sunday: TBC
Opening hours are local time and are subject to change.
Leaving the circuit
Due to the large number of fans leaving the circuit after each day's action, some congestion when exiting the venue should be expected. Keep this in mind when using public transport too.
The metro system finishes operations around 00:00 Saturday-Wednesday and 01:00 Thursday-Friday.
