‘I was having Hamilton flashbacks!’ – Albon pleased to survive late Perez assault on P4
Share
What is it about Alex Albon and the Red Bull Ring’s Turn 4? Last weekend the Red Bull driver lost a chance of a maiden podium finish after tangling with Lewis Hamilton at the right-hander, and in Sunday’s Styrian Grand Prix he came ever so close to losing P4 after late contact with Sergio Perez.
Perez was a man on a mission in the race, charging from 17th on the grid to P5 before setting his sights on Albon’s P4. The Mexican launched an attack up the inside at Turn 4 and the duo touched – but fortunately for Albon, while he wobbled, he managed to stay ahead and keep his place to the flag, as Perez dropped back with front wing damage.

Alex Albon keen to identify cause of pace deficit
Speaking to the media afterwards, Albon seemed like his mind was initially elsewhere. “I was having Lewis flashbacks,” he joked. “But it was a good race. This weekend I lacked a bit of pace to be honest. I need to check where to find the time – we think we know. I am happy we got fourth – it was good to get some points after last week.”
Following his retirement from the season opener, Albon now has 13 points and sits eighth in the drivers’ standings. Team mate Max Verstappen is two places better off in P6 with 15 points, after his third place on Sunday.
