BUDAPEST, HUNGARY - JULY 17: Sergio Perez of Mexico and Racing Point looks on during practice for

It was a po-faced Sergio Perez that greeted the media after Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying, despite the Mexican qualifying fourth for his best start at the Hungaroring since 2013. But as he'd explain, the Racing Point driver captured that position whilst feeling “dizzy” and not "100% physically” during the session.

Racing Point have shown to be a real force in Formula 1 this season, the RP20 creating a talking point given its similarities to last year’s all-conquering Mercedes. In Hungary, Lance Stroll and Perez put their strong car to good use, qualifying third and fourth respectively to lock-out the second row of the grid.

But Perez, who has appeared to be the stronger of the two Racing Point cars so far this weekend, could not match his team mate when it mattered, having not felt at his best during the qualifying hour.

“I didn’t feel 100% physically during qualifying, I was getting dizzy through qualifying, that’s not great,” he explained. “I need to check with my physio what is going on. I should be OK for tomorrow.”

Perez ran wide at Turn 4, exceeding track limits and having his time deleted during his first run in Q3. He regrouped and recovered to post the fourth fastest time and ensure an all Racing Point second row.

“I managed to get away with a good result,” he added. “It was very messy, my qualifying still P4 is a good race start for tomorrow.

“It’s a great result for the team, we looked good all the way through. Hopefully tomorrow, we can put it together in the race and score a lot of points for the team.”

Racing Point lie fourth in the constructors' standings coming into Hungary, five points behind Red Bull who could only manage P7 and P13 on the grid in Budapest.
