Saturday was a day of surprise in Canada. After a very damp Friday, a dry FP3 was unexpected, and a dry(ish) qualifying session frankly astounding – almost as big a shock as seeing a resurgent Mercedes take a first pole position of the year, with George Russell nicking P1 by virtue of completing his 1m12.000s lap seven minutes before Max Verstappen set an identical time.
