Pirelli: Teams to get clearer guidance on tyre usage

Formula One tyre suppliers Pirelli say they are working with F1 governing body, the FIA, to establish clearer procedures on tyre usage to ensure teams comply fully with the rules.

It follows the uncertainty that initially surrounded Lewis Hamilton’s win at the last round in Italy, when stewards found he had started the race with one tyre below the recommended pressure. Mercedes were subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing.

“We will also be defining, together with the FIA, a clearer procedure enabling the teams to more easily follow the rules regarding tyre usage,” said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery, looking ahead to this weekend’s Singapore race.

“This is important to avoid any misunderstandings, by giving the teams more precise indications to comply with, thus avoiding what happened to Mercedes in Monza.”
