Raikkonen’s former race engineer Greenwood returns to F1 with Alpine

Kimi Raikkonen’s former race engineer David Greenwood has returned to Formula 1, taking the role of Racing Director at Alpine.
Greenwood left Ferrari in 2018 to explore opportunities in other motorsport and that included working with now Alpine team boss Oli Oakes at Hitech GP.

He has a wealth of experience in F1, including working for Renault during their title-winning seasons in 2005 and 2006 as trackside engineer.
He spent four years at Marussia in engineering roles before overseeing Raikkonen’s return to Ferrari. During that stint, the team finished second three times in the Teams’ Championship.

Other roles included working as Technical Director of United Autosport, where he secured class wins at the Le Mans 24 Hours and World Endurance Championship’ teams’ title.
Since joining mid-way through last year, Oakes has been working with executive advisor Flavio Briatore to restructure the leadership team.

That has involved bringing Greenwood onboard, the 46-year-old having been in talks with Oakes for several months before starting his new role in January.
Alpine rebounded from a tough start to 2024 to secure a double podium in Brazil and finish sixth in the Constructors’ Championship.
