Sao Paulo GP Sprint Facts & Stats: Hamilton has form for making it to the podium from P10

A thrilling Sprint started with Valtteri Bottas nipping ahead of Max Verstappen, as the Finn held off a spirited attack from the Dutchman to grab pole for Mercedes for Sunday's Grand Prix. Behind it was all action as Lewis Hamilton tried to recover places after starting last, following his disqualification from yesterday’s qualifying results. Add in a combination of tyre compounds, and there was plenty of action across the 24-lap dash. Here are the facts and stats from the third and final Sprint, the finishing order of which sets the grid for the race on Sunday...

• Valtteri Bottas led every lap of the Sprint for the second consecutive event.

• The Finn has three pole positions from the last four races, having taken just one pole in 16 races before that.

• Max Verstappen finished in P2, and whenever Red Bull have been on the front row at Interlagos they have always won the race.

• The pole sitter has won six of the last seven races here.

• Carlos Sainz finished third, for just his second top three start for Ferrari, after starting on the front row in Russia.

• The Spaniard out-qualified a team mate in Brazil for the first time, and he finished on the podium the last time F1 visited here.

• Sergio Perez’s fourth is his best ever Brazil start, and the eighth time he has started on the second row this season.

• Lando Norris will start fifth, for his first top five start since taking pole in Russia and he achieved it on his 22nd birthday.

• Pierre Gasly will start seventh, three places lower than he qualified yesterday.

• Esteban Ocon starts eighth, his highest ever start here at a track where he has never scored.

• The Frenchman leads Fernando Alonso 10-9 now in their qualifying head-to-head.

• Sebastian Vettel’s P9 is his lowest start at Interlagos for 12 years.

• Lewis Hamilton starts 10th, having gained 15 places in 24 laps in the Sprint before serving a five-place grid drop.

• He has started from P10 four times in his career, making it to the podium once when he finished second in Russia in 2016.
