Sauber Academy present ‘very promising’ line-up of drivers for 2023
Sauber Academy have outlined their driver roster for the 2023 motorsport season, with 2022 F2 runner-up Theo Pourchaire being joined by several new names.
Pourchaire signed for Sauber’s scheme back in 2020 and will act as reserve driver for the Alfa Romeo team in 2023, alongside his third campaign in F2 with ART Grand Prix – title glory the 19-year-old Frenchman’s target.

One of three drivers joining Pourchaire is Swiss racer Lena Buhler (25) who, fresh from contesting the Formula 4 UAE Championship, will debut in the newly-launched F1 Academy series, which aims to develop and prepare young female drivers.
Also arriving are 17-year-old Franco-Finn Marcus Amand, who will move from Italian and German F4 to the Formula Regional European Championship in 2023, and young kart racer Taym Saleh.
Sauber Academy was launched in 2020 as “a full development pathway” for young drivers – spanning mental and physical training, technical work with the team’s engineers, media training and work on the simulator.
“Discovering and nurturing young talent has always been at the centre of Sauber Motorsport’s philosophy, with the ultimate aim of raising the champions of tomorrow. Sauber Academy’s 2023 roster is very promising, and I am looking forward to working with each of the drivers,” said Beat Zehnder, Sporting Director of Sauber Motorsport, who oversees the programme.

“Theo’s growth and development ever since he joined have been a source of great pride for us, including his promotion to being one of our Formula 1 team’s official reserve drivers.
“We are also delighted to welcome Lena, Marcus, and Taym to the Academy. We will be by their side in the next steps of their careers, providing them with the tools, the education and the resources needed to succeed in the world of motorsport: we cannot wait to get started and unlock their potential further together.”
