SAY WHAT?! Perez’s practice nightmare, Russell’s qualifying shock and race day chaos in the best team radio from Australia

Australia played host to an action-packed third round of the F1 season over the weekend, with rain mixing up practice, qualifying yielding some shock results and the race featuring drama from lights out to the chequered flag…
All of this meant plenty of activity over the radio, beginning in FP1 when several drivers experienced near-misses amid heavy traffic – Zhou Guanyu left bemused after diving between two cars as he tried to complete a lap and Sergio Perez similarly frustrated after almost clashing with Nico Hulkenberg.
Perez’s event went from bad to worse with a final practice session that included more run-ins with traffic and several off-track excursions, before a trip to the gravel sent him out of qualifying in Q1 and left him lighting up the airwaves.
As race day unfolded, crashes, retirements, Virtual Safety Cars, full Safety Cars and red flags caused absolute chaos on the streets of Albert Park, with Hulkenberg experiencing a scare when Alex Albon crashed and the resulting stoppage bringing contrasting strategic fortunes for the Mercedes drivers.
There was also anger from Carlos Sainz after he picked up a penalty for his late clash with Fernando Alonso, confusion over the final restart and joy for race winner Max Verstappen as he overcame it all to spray the champagne.
