Stroll explains how ‘greatest in the world’ Newey will fit into existing Aston Martin team as he confirms ‘full-time F1 commitment’
Lawrence Stroll has made it clear that Adrian Newey will be “full-time committed” to Aston Martin’s F1 project when he joins the organisation next year, providing “leadership and direction” to the existing technical team.
It was announced on Tuesday that Newey has agreed to join Aston Martin in early 2025 in the role of Managing Technical Partner, with the legendary F1 designer – who boasts 25 world titles – also becoming a shareholder in the team.

Newey will join a sizeable group of established designers and engineers at the Silverstone outfit, including Technical Director Dan Fallows – with whom he previously worked at Red Bull – and incoming F1 Chief Technical Officer Enrico Cardile from Ferrari.
For Stroll, alongside significant investment in an all-new, state-of-the-art factory, adding the 65-year-old to the mix is “the biggest part of the puzzle” from a technical perspective as Aston Martin aim to progress from their current position to one day challenge for title glory.
“Adrian, arguably, is the greatest in the world at what he does – there’s nobody who’s come close to winning as many world championships,” said Aston Martin owner Stroll, when asked why Newey is so central to his grand plans.
“He’s a gentleman, he’s a winner, he’s a competitor, and he has the passion and desire to win, as do I and most of the people in this building.
“We started on a journey six years ago with this team [as Racing Point], in much smaller premises, a much smaller building. We brought in some great managers, great people, along the way. We’ve put together a fantastic management team.
“Building this premises was really showing our real intent. To make this level of investment, to build a premises like this, non-existent before in F1, the first of its sort… It’s so grand, but it’s so special.
“We can build 100% of the car here, we’re going to have the first, greatest, newest wind tunnel build in over 20 years – a huge tool to make the car go faster, ultimately.
“[It’s been about] putting all that in place, the people, the premises, and then really looking for our technical leader, and I’ve been trying to speak to Adrian for a couple of years.

“I believe when things are meant to be they happen. I believe he shared my passion, intent and vision. There really is no other F1 team that is poised for the future as we are. I can’t be more excited to have Adrian onboard.”
Pushed on how Newey will fit into the team, given the array of technical talent that he has signed up in recent years, Stroll added: “As I mentioned, we have a strong team, some of which Adrian has already worked with.
“Adrian is going to be the Managing Technical Partner of that team, so on a day-to-day basis he’ll be here, full commitment, full-time committed to F1, giving leadership and direction to this team.”
Newey will officially start work with Aston Martin on March 1 next year, having recently stepped back from F1 design duties at Red Bull to focus on final development and delivery of their RB17 hypercar.
