Supersoft tyres on the menu for Mexico

Share

Teams and drivers will be able to choose from Pirelli's red-marked supersoft, yellow-marked soft and white-marked medium tyre compounds for October's Formula 1 Gran Premio de Mexico 2016, the 19th round of this year's championship.

It will be the first time the supersoft has been used at the famed Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City since its return the Formula One calendar last season.

The supersoft is the assigned compound for drivers who reach Q3 in qualifying, while the soft and medium are nominated for the race - meaning drivers must have at least one set of each compound, and must use at least one of them during the 71-lap race.

Last year's Mexican Grand Prix, where only the medium and soft tyres were available, was won by Mercedes' Nico Rosberg from team mate Lewis Hamilton and Williams' Valtteri Bottas.
