The competitive shape of this season – with a Red Bull which was dominant for the first few races being caught and surpassed by McLaren – is an unusual one.
The closest parallel in the sport’s history is probably that of the dominant Brawn of early 2009 being caught and surpassed in performance by Red Bull. Or the dominant McLaren of early ’91 being subsequently out-paced by the Williams.
