TREMAYNE: How McLaren won their very first F1 titles, exactly 50 years ago

It seems odd, looking back, but the 1973 Italian Grand Prix may have settled McLaren’s first world championships – both the drivers’ and the constructors’ – which were won 50 years ago.
Emerson Fittipaldi had dominated the 1972 season with John Player Team Lotus, in the elegant and newly liveried Lotus 72. “Lotus was a great team and I felt very much at home there,” he told writer Gordon Kirby in a biography. “It was like family.”
