Trio of award-winning acts to star in Singapore concerts
Pet Shop Boys will be joined by Ziggy Marley and John Legend in a star-studded line-up for the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix race weekend concerts this September.
The multi award-winning performers are set to ignite the Village Stage across both Saturday and Sunday in Singapore. Entry to all three concerts is included free with any three-day ticket to the Grand Prix.
Pet Shops Boys, who have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, will bring their eclectic mix of electropop sound and avant garde costume for one night only before qualifying on Saturday September 20.
The duo - Neil Tennant (main vocals, keyboards and occasional guitar) and Chris Lowe (keyboards, occasional vocals) - are recognised as the most successful twosome in UK music history. Over the past two decades they have recorded 22 Top 10 hits in the UK charts, won three prestigious Brit Awards, and were recently awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Music award by Q Magazine.
They continue to push the envelope, and will blend their typical breathless energy with mesmerising video shows and a slew of iconic hits for their Marina Bay Street Circuit performance.
On Sunday, nine-time Grammy Award winner John Legend takes over on the Village Stage.
Since signing with Kanye West's record label a decade ago, Legend has risen from session keyboardist to global superstar and American icon, renowned for his neo-soul ballads and symphonic brilliance. Most recently, his single “All of Me” shot to the number-one spot in the United States Billboard Hot 100.
Legend's pre-race performance will be open to Sunday single-day Pit Grandstand special ticketholders, as well as three-day ticket holders.
Ziggy Marley, a six-time Grammy winner and Emmy winner, will appear on both days at Singapore.
Fresh from winning best Reggae Album at this year's Grammy Awards, Ziggy will perform for the first time ever in Singapore post-qualifying on September 20 on the Village Stage, before switching over to the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre for a second, post-race concert.
Marley's infectious reggae beats, influenced by father and icon Bob Marley, include global hits like ‘Tomorrow People', ‘Love is my Religion' and ‘Fly Rasta'.
While his Saturday concert is free for all three-day ticket holders, his post-race performance will also be accessible for Sunday single-day Pit Grandstand special and Sunday Zone 4 Walkabout ticketholders.
Singapore organisers are expected to announce more acts for the race weekend concerts over the coming weeks.
The 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix takes place on September 19-21.
