W Series: Powell wins at Zandvoort to go level on points with runner-up Chadwick

Alice Powell finished ahead of championship rival Jamie Chadwick and pole-sitter Emma Kimilainen in front of a buzzing Zandvoort crowd on Saturday – the result leaving Powell and Chadwick level in the standings.

Belgium winner Kimilainen took pole position and led the duelling pair of Powell then Chadwick as the lights went out, those two trading fastest laps as they kept on the pole-sitter's rear wing.

With eight of 30 minutes completed, Powell was right on Kimilainen's tail, taking the lead down the inside of Turn 10 as the Finn ran slightly wide. Chadwick then swept past Kimilainen down the main straight for P2, leaving the championship leaders in the top two spots. However, Powell stretched her legs at the front in the last 10 minutes and won by 2.8 seconds over Chadwick.

Kimilainen resisted the pace of Nerea Marti to take her third podium of the season while Marti settled for fourth having started there.

Jessica Hawkins made up a place to fifth on the first lap and then found herself holding up a train of cars, Abbie Eaton first in line. But Hawkins hung on to P5 for her best series finish while Eaton took sixth.

Belen Garcia made a penultimate-lap move on Abbie Pulling for seventh but Pulling fought back on the final lap when Garcia locked up at Turn 3, a fantastic battle capping off Round 6. In the end, it was Pulling who took P7 and Garcia P8.

That left Sarah Moore ninth and Miki Koyama rounding out the top 10 with Vicky Piria missing out on the final point.

Beitske Visser and Ayla Agren returned to race after their heavy crash at Spa-Francorchamps, finishing 12th and 15th respectively.

The Circuit Of The Americas is W Series' next destination with Powell and Chadwick equal on 109 points heading to Round 7 on October 22-23.
