Whether it’s been Michael Schumacher supporting Eddie Irvine’s title fight at Ferrari in 1999, Rubens Barrichello helping the German in his own championship bid in 2002, or Sergio Perez being hailed as a “legend” by fellow Red Bull driver Max Verstappen at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for defending against a chasing Lewis Hamilton, a number of well-known names have acted as great team mates over the years.
Some of these moments have even sparked famous soundbites – who could forget Ferrari’s Felipe Massa moving over for Fernando Alonso after being told “Fernando is faster than you”, or James Vowles’ radio message to Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas of “Valtteri, it’s James”?
